Using Keywords to Get Quality Traffic

from:

There was once a time when the general thought was that all traffic was good traffic. Thankfully, more and more Internet marketers are beginning to discover that quality is much more important, in many cases than quantity and the focus is shifting towards refining keyword research to address this issue. The real question has become, how can you use keyword research to find the keywords that are going to deliver visitors that are looking to buy? This, is not always so cut and dry. It's a good idea to think outside the box when seeking answers.

So, how do you get the quality traffic without focusing on the quantity of traffic? The bottom line is converting the visitors to sales but wouldn't it be better to get fewer visitors and still make more sales? By doing what the competition does—only better.

If you are wondering how you can do this, consider visiting the popular sites for keyword research, typing in the keywords you are considering, and taking the time to really study the top 30 results from each of the tools. The tools you might want to use for this exercise include: SEO Book, WordTracker, Google Sandbox Tool, and any other tools you have been using in order to narrow your selection of keywords. Take the time and carefully study these sites that you will be competing with to see how you can improve on what they offer.

As you are studying these sites be sure to take a look at other keywords that are being promoted on these sites. Make a list and see what doors these other keywords open. You know that you want keywords that are well searched. You also know that you want keywords that have little competition. It is important to find a balance between the two. The ideal keyword will be well searched AND offer little competition. Avoid spending too much time and/or energy on one or the other of these. Instead, take great notes and find those keywords that work well for both situations.

Another thing you will want to make sure of is that you offer relevant information to your visitors that is helpful to them. Keywords are great. Including those keywords will be your lifeline. The thing that is going to make you money though isn't getting people to your page in the first place; it's keeping them there longer than 8 seconds. You can do it, but not if you aren't offering something of substance to your visitors. More importantly though, you need to offer something better and more engaging than your competition. Learn to appeal to your readers on an emotional level and you will find that half the battle is won for you. Do it with the right keywords and you will find that you will soon win the war for top billing in the search engines. Learn to focus on quality rather than quantity though and your conversion rate should soar.
